Alex Ovechkin gasses up during blizzard for personal plow (Video)
Alex Ovechkin … he’s just like us!
Granted, we don’t have 503 NHL goals or a $10 million base salary or three MVP awards or a statue at Madame Tussauds. But the Washington Capitals star has been enchanting fans with “regular person” stuff in the D.C. area, like buying Powerball tickets for the billion-dollar jackpot or, on Friday, gassing up before a history-making blizzard hit the area.
WUSA9 happened upon Ovechkin getting some gas at an Exxon station in Tyson’s Corner, Va., where he gave a “man getting gas at an Exxon station” interview.
Turns out, Ovechkin wanted the extra gas for a plow he plans to use on his driveway and those of his neighbors. (Cue Alex Ovechkin signing the “Mr. Plow” jingle with thick accent.) Which is a little surprising, because we always figured Ovechkin would drag the plow like an ox, based on what we learned about Russian culture in ROCKY IV.
Here’s some raw footage.
The blizzard, which could dump near 30 inches of snow on the area, forced the postponement of the Capitals’ game against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night – it was originally moved to 5 p.m. to accommodate fans as D.C.’s mass transit was set to close at 11 p.m., but then postponed outright.
As Ovechkin said, he had nothing else to do, so he gassed up before heading home. And when it comes to the massive snowball, he wasn’t sweating it.
“We’re from Russia so we always have that kind of stuff,” he said.
Now that we learned from ROCKY IV…
