Menwear designers want Giants’ McAdoo to stop being a fashion don’t
This being awards season in Hollywood, designers were lined up to dress the year’s fresh-faced ingenues for their red carpet appearances.
But the NFL has its own fresh-faced newcomer this year, and designers want to make sure he looks his best as well.
After his introductory press conference last week, when he was formally promoted to head coach of the New York Giants, Ben McAdoo wore a dark suit that was noticeably big on him, and even for a man who admits to being far more comfortable in a hoodie and sweats, it wasn’t a great look.
“That was a nice-fitting suit 60 pounds ago,” McAdoo told the New York Post, noting his weight loss.
But the coach of the Giants, in one of the world’s fashion capitals, can’t always look so frumpy, and plenty of designers have reached out to help McAdoo.
“We got ‘em lined up, they’re ready to come in,’’ McAdoo during a Tuesday appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I told ‘em if they’re free, I’ll take three.’’
At least two dozen designers, tailors and stylists reached out to McAdoo through the team, so he’ll be looking sharp in no time, but during an ESPN interview, he admitted he was taken aback by the attention given to his sartorial misstep.
“I guess I’m surprised it got that much attention,’’ McAdoo said. “I take it as a compliment. I worked really hard over the last year to get in a little better shape, get in a little better condition. I’ll take that as a compliment.’’
