USC reportedly adds another former Trojan assistant as RB coach
USC has reportedly hired Texas running backs coach Tommie Robinson to the same position.
The news was reported by USCFootball.com and Orangebloods.com. Robinson has been with Texas since 2013 when Texas coach Charlie Strong replaced Mack Brown as the Longhorns’ head coach.
Robinson was with USC before he moved to Texas. His return to the Trojans means the school has five coaches on staff including new head coach Clay Helton who were assistants under Lane Kiffin. Yes, five.
Kiffin, the Alabama offensive coordinator, won’t be a part of the staff of course, but that’s not stopping Helton from recreating the Kiffin experience. Kiffin was fired from USC in 2013 and replaced by interim coach Ed Orgeron. Helton was Kiffin’s offensive coordinator and was the team’s interim coach in the bowl game after Orgeron wasn’t returning to the team.
The other tree coaches are Clancy Pendergast, John Baxter and Tee Martin. Pendergast was USC’s defensive coordinator in 2013 and will return to the same role in 2016. He was an assistant for the San Francisco 49ers in 2015. Martin is the team’s wide receivers coach for the past three seasons, is now the Trojans’ offensive coordinator. Baxter, the team’s special teams coordinator under Kiffin, is back in that role after coaching at Michigan.
