LIVE Transfer Talk: Chelsea to lose four?
The winter window opened Jan. 2. As always, Transfer Talk has its finger on the pulse when it comes to all the latest rumours and gossip. See the latest deals here.
TOP STORY: Chelsea fear exodus of star names
To say it has been an annus horribilis for Chelsea so far this season would be something of an understatement, but according to a report in The Sun it could get a whole lot worse in the summer.
Chelsea continue to flirt with a relegation battle, hovering four points above Newcastle in the final drop spot. And if owner Roman Abramovich was hoping things would get better next season with a fresh start and a new manager in place of interim boss Guus Hiddink, it could be about to get more complicated.
The paper reports that Diego Costa, Thibaut Courtois and the twinkling Oscar and Eden Hazard could all go in the summer, with the club “scared that poor results, a fractured dressing room and no Champions League football” will cost them stars.
One possible destination for Costa is Paris Saint-Germain, with former Chelsea defender David Luiz advising Blues striker Diego Costa that the Ligue 1 club is a good place for the forward to be. Full story here.

PAPER ROUND
De Gea ‘is staying united with United’
There was good news for Manchester United fans on Sunday when Wayne Rooney secured a narrow victory at old enemies Liverpool — and there’s more for them now, claims the Star.
The paper is convinced that goalkeeper David De Gea, a seemingly perpetual transfer target for Real Madrid and one of the stars of the show at Anfield despite Luis van Gaal’s assessment, is going nowhere. Well, for now.
“De Gea’s a stayer,” it announces, saying the Spain international has told the Bernabeu club — who were within a whisker of doing a deal in the summer — “to forget about signing him this month.”
It adds that the development comes “despite Real president Florentino Perez being willing to meet the £45 million buyout clause in De Gea’s contract” before the club’s ban on registering new players both in the summer and next winter kicks in.
If De Gea were to move to pastures new at the end of this season, though, the Sun believes United would want to sign Kasper Schmeichel, son of Old Trafford legend Peter, from Leicester City as his replacement.
Another Saido story? You’d Bera believe it
It’s Saido Berahino time again, as one of the mainstays of the summer transfer window continues his seamless transition to becoming one of the mainstays of the winter one.
So far this month, we’ve already heard that he has “set his heart” on a move to Tottenham, with whom he was so strongly linked before the season started, as well as being of strong interest to both Stoke and Newcastle.
And it’s Newcastle who have upped that interest, according to most of Tuesday’s papers, with the Mirror telling us that Magpies owner Steve Ashley “is gambling on a spending spree to rescue third-bottom Toon from relegation.”
Top of the list of potential recruits for manager Steve McClaren is… West Bromwich Albion man Berahino, at a cost of £15 million.
Meanwhile, Newcastle remain favourites to sign Tottenham winger Andros Townsend, having not been put off by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy putting a £14 million price tag on the England man.

Tap-ins
– Crystal Palace remain hopeful that former Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor will become an Eagle soon, despite sources telling ESPN FC the player wants a longer deal than the six-month contract on the table at Selhurst Park.
And if the 31-year-old does join he’ll be a welcome addition, according to defender Scott Dann, whom the Sun quotes as saying: “Whoever comes into the club, they will always fit in. This is a strong changing room. There has been stuff said about him in the past — but I am sure he is a good lad.”
– Aston Villa manager Remi Garde wants to hold further negotiations with Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy, according to the Telegraph.
Debuchy has said he wants to leave the Gunners in the winter window, and Garde remains hopeful that he can be persuaded to move to Villa Park. The Villa boss, whose side are adrift at the bottom of the table after picking up just two Premier League wins so far this season, believes the Frenchman’s experience can help their prospects — and boost Debuchy’s hopes of a place in the France squad for Euro 2016.
– Prolific Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes has long been thought of as an Ewood Park departure waiting to happen, with Sheffield Wednesday the latest club reported to be interested. But manager Paul Lambert believes his star man will be staying put.
The Express quotes Lambert, speaking after the victory over Newport County that put Rovers into the fourth round of the FA Cup — and in which Rhodes scored — as saying: “I haven’t heard anything about Jordan leaving. As far as I am concerned he is our player, and we are delighted with his contribution. Until a manager picks up the phone and asks me the question, I don’t have a problem — and I haven’t had any calls at all.”
