Spurs' Parker leaves game with hip soreness
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker left the team’s 112-83 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday and didn’t return after experiencing soreness in his right hip.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich couldn’t provide information about the severity of Parker’s injury.
“I haven’t talked to him,” Popovich said. “I don’t know.”
Parker missed two games last week due to soreness in the same hip, and there’s a good chance the club’s decision to remove him from action against the Mavericks was a precautionary measure. Parker scored two points in 25 minutes, in addition to dishing seven assists.
The club pulled Parker with 3:48 remaining in the third quarter, when the Spurs held a 65-49 lead. Popovich has said on multiple occasions that the Spurs err on the side of caution when dealing with veterans such as Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili.
Parker led San Antonio with a game-high 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting in the team’s 99-95 win Thursday over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Parker averaged 27.5 points in addition to shooting .649 from the field in the two games prior to Sunday’s contest against the Mavericks.
Parker entered the game Sunday shooting 53.4 percent, good for fifth in the NBA. Parker was the only NBA guard ranked in the top 15 in field goal percentage entering play Sunday.
