Report: Marcel Yates leaves Boise State to become Arizona’s DC
Boise State defensive coordinator Marcel Yates has left to take the same position at Arizona, according reports from several outlets, including the Idaho Statesman, Fox and Sports Illustrated.
Yates, a graduate of Boise State, came to the Broncos in 2014 after a two-year stint as the co-defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.
Under Yates, the Broncos ranked 12th nationally in total defense (318.3 yards per game) and 18th in scoring defense (20.2 points per game) during the 2015 season. In 2014, the Broncos ranked 48th in total defense and 63rd in coring defense. The Broncos are the only team in the country to rank in the top 10 in turnovers forced each of the past two years.
Yates replaces Jeff Casteel, who was let go earlier this month. The Wildcat’s defense ranked 114th in total defense (466.8 yards per game) and 107th in coring defense with 35.8 points per game.
