Henrik Sedin out through All-Star break with upper-body injury
Mikhail Grabovski was assessed a major for boarding and given a game misconduct for his hit on Henrik Sedin during Sunday’s 2-1 Vancouver Canucks win over the New York Islanders.
Sedin didn’t return to the game and the news got worse on Monday when head coach Willie Desjardins said the forward wouldn’t be back in the lineup until after the All-Star break.
The ejection was deemed enough of a punishment as the Department of Player Safety decided not to hand out any supplemental discipline to Grabovski.
Meanwhile, Sedin will head back to Vancouver as the Canucks finish up their east coast road trip before returning home next Tuesday.
With Brandon Prust headed for a likely healthy scratch on Tuesday against the Rangers and Brandon Sutter close to returning, that means Sedin’s absence will move 19-year old Jared McCann to the top line center spot with 20-year Bo Horvat on the second line.
