Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul having more hand surgery
Jason Pierre-Paul is undergoing more hand surgery to repair the damage caused by the fireworks accident last July 4 weekend.
After missing the first half of the season, Pierre-Paul played remarkably well despite only collecting one sack in his eight starts. The accident left him with parts of four fingers on his right hand, and this latest procedure is intended to help him with his grip. Pierre-Paul was forced to wear a large protective club on his hand that often made it hard for him to bring down ballcarriers.
JPP sent out an Instagram post as he was being prepped for the surgery.
Pierre-Paul is a free agent this March after being franchise-tagged this past season. The defensively challenged Giants figure to make him an offer to return, but it’s unclear if he’s looking to move on, if the team wants him back or how much of a market there might be.
Could he be more effective with better hand flexibility? Might he be able to play without such a cumbersome wrap? If so, we’re talking about a player who just turned 27 and might in theory be entering his peak physical years — except for the obvious handicap.
