UConn backup QB Tim Boyle to transfer
Tim Boyle, the quarterback who helped UConn beat Houston in 2015, is transferring.
He told the Hartford Courant that he was on a visit to Eastern Kentucky over the weekend. EKU is at the FCS level of college football and if Boyle transferred there he would be able to play immediately.
Boyle stepped in for Bryant Shirreffs during the Huskies’ win over the Cougars in November. The 20-17 game was the Cougars’ only loss of the season. Boyle was 12-22 passing in that game for 120 yards.
He started the next game and had a similar stat line (12-120 for 121 yards and an interception) but it was a 27-3 loss to Temple. The win sealed the Owls’ American Athletic Conference title game berth.
The Temple and Houston games were the most significant action Boyle saw in 2015. His playing time diminished over the past three seasons and was likely to be the backup to Shirreffs in 2016.
Boyle threw 133 passes in 2013 and completed just 44 percent of them. He also threw eight interceptions and no touchdowns. His only career touchdown pass came in a 41-10 loss to Memphis in 2014.
