No. 1 Star: Cory Schneider, New Jersey Devils
The Devils goalie stopped all 38 shots he faced, including when they were outshot 13-3 in the third period, to shut out the Arizona Coyotes, 2-0. It’s his fourth shutout of the season.
No. 2 Star: Tomas Hertl, San Jose Sharks
Hertl sniped the game-winner in the 3-on-3 overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars in a back and forth affair. Hertl added an assist on Marc-Edouard Vlasic’s second-period goal; Vlasic had two goals and an assist.
No. 3 Star: Brian Elliott, St. Louis Blues
It was “Goalie Night” in St. Louis, so naturally the Blues allowed their goalie to face 49 shots. He made a career-high 46 saves in the Blues’ 4-3 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens, the most for a Blues goalie since Curtis Joseph’s 46 in 1993. Jori Lehtera had the game-winner.
Honorable Mention: Mats Zuccarello scored a brilliant shootout goal in the New York Rangers’ 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 shots. … Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Bobby Ryan and Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist for the Ottawa Senators in their 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings. … Patrice Bergeron scored two goals and Tuukka Rask made 27 saves in the Boston Bruins’ 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brad Marchand had the game-winner at 19:13 of the third. … Chad Johnson made 33 saves in the Buffalo Sabres’ 4-1 upset of the Washington Capitals, with the first goals of the season for Phillip Varone and Tim Schaller coming in the first period. … Jack Johnson’s goal at 18:53 of the third period was the difference in the Columbus Blue Jackets’ 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
