North Texas player turns self in to police following hit-and-run
North Texas wide receiver Darvin Kidsy was arrested Friday after a hit-and-run crash in Denton, Texas.
Kidsy, a senior in 2016, was arrested after he turned himself in to police. The crash happened in the early hours of Dec. 5 and reportedly left a pedestrian with critical injuries.
Just before 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 5, calls came into 911 about two pedestrians being hit near South Carroll Boulevard and West Sycamore Street by a maroon GM pickup truck with a UNT sticker on the back. The truck reportedly took off from the scene.
One of the pedestrians, 23-year-old Bobby Kim, suffered serious injuries including broken teeth and bones. The other pedestrian, 18-year-old Zachary Adams, had non-life threatening injuries.
The truck was found shortly after the incident at an apartment complex. Per WFAA, a witness in the police affadavit said he believed the crash was intentional as the truck crossed three lanes before going up onto the sidewalk.
Kidsy reported his truck was stolen the night before the accident. But he didn’t report it immediately after it was purportedly stolen and authorities had a hard time believing his story that it was taken from his apartment complex.
A Crime Stoppers tip stated that Kidsy was seen driving his truck on the night in question, and when he was asked about the damage, police stated he “would start to answer on most of his questions but then stop as if he was thinking before completing what he wanted to say.”
Police wrote in their affidavit that “red flags” were apparent — one being that Kidsy didn’t report his truck stolen when he first noticed it was missing. He claims he thought one of his teammates was playing a joke on him, but then said no one knows about his extra key under his floor mat, and stated he always locks his doors.
Kidsy had 17 catches for 240 yards and two touchdowns in 2015. He started two games and had three catches for 93 yards in North Texas’ loss to Western Kentucky. The Mean Green was 1-11 in 2015 and North Carolina offensive coordinator Seth Littrell was hired as the team’s new head coach in December.
