Paul Gaustad boards Andrew Ladd with big hit
Nashville Predators forward Paul Gaustad received a two-minute minor for boarding Andrew Ladd of the Winnipeg Jets in a game Thursday night at MTS Centre.
The play happened at the end of the second period and a gif of the hit is above. Initially the play looked scary for Ladd who returned to start the third period for the Jets and assisted on a Nikolaj Ehlers goal.
It has already been an eventful night for Gaustad, Nashville’s fourth-line center and faceoff ace. Earlier, he fought Jets defenseman Mark Stuart – also in the second period.
The Predators lost 5-4 in overtime to pick up their first points since trading for forward Ryan Johansen last week. Nashville now has 46 points but fell out of the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference with the loss. The Colorado Avalanche beat the New Jersey Devils 3-0 on Thursday to improve to 47 points and jump over the Predators.
Nashville was down 4-1 in the third period at the Jets but stormed back to tie the game with three straight goals. James Neal tied the game at the 19:46 mark to send it into overtime.
