The Belmont Bruins won their 4th straight game and improved to 11-6 (3-0 OVC East) on the season after defeating the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 85-59, this past Saturday. Belmont was tied with Eastern Illinois at halftime, 36-36, but scored 30 of the final 38 points of the game to easily stay perfect in OVC play. Belmont shot 48.3% from the field and 41.7% (15-36) from beyond the arc. The Bruins held the Panthers to 37.5% shooting from the field and 27.3% (6-23) from three-point range. Leading the way for Belmont was Evan Bradds who had a double-double with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and an assist. On the season, the Bruins have been led by Evan Bradds (17.8 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 1.9 apg), Craig Bradshaw (17.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.4 spg), and Taylor Barnette (10.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.8 apg). Offensively, Belmont is averaging 82.5 ppg on 49.1% shooting from the field and 35.9% shooting from beyond the arc. The Bruins average 12 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.22. Defensively, Belmont is allowing their opponents to average 77.2 ppg on 42.7% shooting. The Bruins have a rebound margin of -2.1 and a turnover margin of -2.1.
The Racers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games following three or more consecutive home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Bruins are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. Ohio Valley opponents.
Murray State has been one of the more dominant teams in the OVC in recent years however, the Racers might be in for a long season after losing all but one starter from last year’s 29-6 team. Belmont has two of the best players in the OVC this season in Evan Bradds and Craig Bradshaw and will be the favorites to represent the OVC in the NCAA Tournament this season. Belmont is once against very dangerous offensive team and as Murray State has really struggled on the road (0-4), I think the Bruins will be able to cover this spread at home. Take Belmont to cover.
