Heat's Dragic goes back to Miami for MRI on calf
Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic has a strained left calf and was sent back to Miami to undergo an MRI, coach Erik Spoelstra said Wednesday.
Dragic will miss the remainder of the Heat’s road trip. The Heat face the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, the Denver Nuggets on Friday and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday before returning to Miami to play the Milwaukee Bucks next Tuesday.
Dragic told reporters the injury was “frustrating.”
“I want to be here to help the team, but this is a part of the game,” he said.
Dragic leads the Heat in both assists (5.0 per game) and steals (1.0). He is averaging 12.3 points per game.
He was acquired by the Heat in a trade with the Phoenix Suns last February. Miami gave up four players and two draft picks to get Dragic, who told the Suns that he needed a change of scenery. He signed a five-year, $85 million extension with the Heat last July.
Before his injury, he had scored in double digits in eight straight games, including 22 against the Suns last Friday as the Heat beat his former team 103-95.
The Heat also ruled power forward Josh McRoberts (knee) out for Wednesday night’s game against the Clippers. Center Hassan Whiteside (knee) will be a game-time decision after fully participating in the team’s shootaround.
