Travis Hamonic expected to miss 2-3 weeks with lower-body injury
Travis Hamonic of the New York Islanders blocked a shot with his skate during their 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals last Thursday and the injury he sustained will likely keep him out through the All-Star break.
After missing Saturday’s loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, Hamonic is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a lower body, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday. That likely leaves the Islanders without two of their top defensemen until next month as Johnny Boychuk recovers from an upper-body injury.
Hamonic’s injury would also complicate any potential deal involving the defenseman who requested a trade before the season for personal reasons. But between the Islanders sitting in a playoff spot and Hamonic continuing to play at a high level, thereby the team needing his presence in the lineup, a move seems unlikely until at least the summer for the 25-year old, who is signed through 2020 with a $3,857,142 cap hit, per General Fanager.
