Depending on who you ask, soccer needs coverage from the mainstream media in the United States in order to be successful. Or, does it?
It’s one of those topics that certainly splits opinions. There are some that think that soccer can’t get the mass appeal if the daily newspapers and SportsCenter aren’t talking about the games.
And yet there are others who believe that in an Internet age that soccer doesn’t need mainstream media coverage in order for the sport to grow. The World Wide Web and social media alone can ensure that the conversation about soccer happens on a daily basis — no matter what mainstream sports media focuses its attention on.
