Twins closer Glen Perkins feels for Vikings kicker Blair Walsh
When Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh missed a chip-shot field goal Sunday to lose to Seattle at home instead of sending his team to the Divisional round of the playoffs, one longtime Vikings fan could relate to the awful feeling Walsh was experiencing.
Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins was born in St. Paul and attended the University of Minnesota and is a life-long Vikings fan. He also understands what it’s like to be responsible for giving away a win, though he’s never done so on quite as big a stage as Walsh. Along with a lot of other Vikings fans, Perkins took to Twitter to share his thoughts after the disappointment.

Perkins has recorded at least 32 saves in each of the past three seasons, but like every closer, he’s had a few chances not go his way. He converted his first 28 save opportunities last season before the inevitable blown save came in mid-July. Of course, blowing a save in one of 162 regular season games is much different than missing a field goal that is shorter than an extra point now in a do-or-die playoff game.

Perkins handled the disappointment much better than some of his fellow Vikings fans who just couldn’t believe the team’s season was over after he missed the 27-yard field goal.
