Adam Jones posts expletive-filled rant about officials after loss
Cincinnati Bengals veteran cornerback Adam Jones took a really bad penalty with 18 seconds left in his team’s wild-card loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was not happy afterward with what went down, and he posted an expletive-filled rant on Instagram.
The video from Jones, which was deleted shortly after he posted it (apparently after Deion Sanders told him to take it down), contained many profanities. Jones’ penalty came after he lunged at Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach and former linebacker Joey Porter, who was on the field. Jones made contact with an official and the flag was thrown. On the next play, kicker Chris Boswell hit a game-winning field goal.
Jones was so mad, he ended up calling Joey Porter “Jerry Porter” in his rant.
“[Expletive] refs did a horrible [expletive] job!” Jones said on his post. “You got [expletive] Jerry Porter in the middle of the [expletive] field talking [expletive] to everybody, then when somebody say something to him – he ain’t even supposed to be on the [expletive] field!”
Jones later posted a calmer video.
Jones’ penalty was horrible, but it was odd that Porter, the team’s outside linebackers coach and someone who was a bit of an agitator when he played, was on the field at that point.
Jones came to the Bengals with a checkered past, which led to an abrupt exit from the Tennessee Titans, who drafted him sixth overall in 2005. Jones spent one year with the Dallas Cowboys and then signed with the Bengals in 2010. He has been mostly a quiet, productive player in Cincinnati. But Saturday night’s costly penalty will be part of his football legacy too.
Jones wasn’t happy with how it all went down. The Bengals and the NFL might not be too happy he posted a rant on Instagram before he could cool down.
