NHL Three Stars: Johansen scores in Preds debut; Ducks best Blues in shoot-out
No. 1 Star: Ryan Kesler, Anaheim Ducks
Kesler was a beast for the Ducks, scoring two goals and racking up a fight with Vladimir Tarasenko after leveling Jori Lehtera:
No. 2 Star: Victor Hedman, Tampa Bay Lightning
Hedman would have earned the first star if he had picked up all three of his points on his own. Instead, he employed the Edmonton Oilers to deflect in all three goals on their own goalie in the 3-2 Lightning win. He also acted as goaltender when Ben Bishop wasn’t available.
No. 3 Star: Phillip Danault, Chicago Blackhawks
Congrats to the youngster Danault who scored his first NHL goal against the Buffalo Sabres. His tally ended up as the game winner for the Blackhawks.
Honorable Mention: Jakob Silfverberg and Ryan Getzlaf scored in the shoot-out to give the Ducks the win. Cory Perry picked up goal No. 15 on 8 shots against the St. Louis Blues … Colin Miller and Ryan Spooner each tallied a goal and an assist in the Bruins 4-1 thumping of the New Jersey Devils … Cam Ward made 35 saves against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 victory. Elias Lindholm registered 2 goal for the ‘Canes … Chad Johnson had 42 saves in the 3-1 loss to Chicago … Five different Colorado Avalanche players picked up a goal in the team’s 5-3 triumph over the Preds. Think Ryan Johansen is going to fit in well with the Nashville Predators? In his debut, RyJo scored a goal on his first shot and later added an assist:
Did You Know? The win by Boston Bruins marked the 3,000th victory for the franchise.
Dishonorable Mention: Blues players Jake Allen, Jay Bouwmeester, and Paul Stastny all left the game and did not return due to injury … Seth Jones made his debut as for Columbus and was minus-2 in 22:31 minutes. Brad Malone did not receive a penalty after hitting Jackets captain Nick Foligno with a head shot, causing him to leave the ice:
