Roger Clemens fires back at Roy Halladay, says PED dig was asinine
tweeted out that Clemens or Barry Bonds weren’t deserving of enshrinment in Cooperstown because of their links to PED use.
Never one to shy away from a challenge on the field, Roger Clemens is taking Roy Halladay’s criticism head on. Prior to Wednesday’s Hall of Fame’s announcement, HalladayHalladay got his wish. While Clemens did receive a spike in votes in his fourth year of eligibility, he still appeared on just 45.2% of the 440 ballots cast. Clemens wasn’t going to take Halladay’s shot sitting down, though, releasing this statement via Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston.

So not only does Clemens defend himself, but he throws in a jab at the end alleging Halladay has been accused of using a banned substance. This back-and-forth might not be over yet. Halladay responded Thursday, taking the high road:
I’ll let my reputation speak for itself
— Roy Halladay (@RoyHalladay) January 7, 2016
Clemens and Halladay were briefly teammates in Toronto in 1998, when Clemens won his fifth of seven career Cy Young awards and Halladay made two starts as a September call-up. They could also share a Hall of Fame ballot in 2019 when Halladay makes his ballot debut if Clemens isn’t elected over the next two years. Now that could be all sorts of fun.
