NHL Three Stars: Horvat powers Canucks; Parenteau, Bernier lead Leafs
No. 1 Star: Bo Horvat, Vancouver Canucks
Horvat’s second goal of the night with 1:06 left in third period helped put the Canucks past the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2. Sven Baetschi recorded a goal and assisted on Horvat’s go-ahead power play tally late in the third.
No. 2 Stars: Jonathan Bernier, P.A. Parenteau, Toronto Maple Leafs
Bernier stopped 39 shots and Parenteau scored the game’s opening two goals as the Maple Leafs blanked the Anaheim Ducks 4-0. The shutout was Bernier’s 11th of his career and second of the season while Parenteau recorded his second multi-goal game of the year. Toronto is now 15-8-5 since Nov. 1.
No. 3 Star: Artemi Panarin, Chicago Blackhawks
Panarin scored twice and upped his rookie-leading point total to 38 as the Blackhawks swept a home-and-home with the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 3-1 victory. Chicago has now won five in a row. The 24-year old Russian also scored twice in Tuesday night’s 3-2 win.
Honorable Mention: Max Pacioretty scored on the power play and Torrey Mitchell put one home shorthanded to help guide the Montreal Canadiens by the New Jersey Devils 2-1. Mike Condon made 19 saves … Montreal is now tied with Ottawa for most shorthanded goals in the NHL with eight … Five of Paul Byron’s 10 points have come shorthanded … Eddie Lack made 18 saves in his return to Vancouver … With their net empty, Nathan MacKinnon tied the game with 1:29 left in regulation and John Mitchell took advantage of a bad decision by Jake Allen and Gabriel Landeskog capitalized as the Avalanche beat the St. Louis Blues 4-3. The Blues had built a 3-1 lead early in the second period before Colorado started their comeback.
