Adam McQuaid taken out by big Zach Sill check (Video)
Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid left his team’s Tuesday game against the Washington Capitals early in the second period after taking a big hit from forward Zach Sill.
In the above video, it appears McQuaid, 29, had his back turned to Sill, before the hit. On the check, McQuaid’s head also looked to hit the glass. McQuaid stayed down for several minutes as Boston team trainers looked over him. He then was helped off the ice by two teammates and did not return.
The Bruins said McQuaid suffered an upper body injury. After the game, coach Claude Julien did not have an update on McQuaid. There was no penalty on the play.
The game, a 3-2 win by the Caps, was a rough contest with both teams engaging in physical play. Earlier in the game Bruins forward Zac Rinaldo hit Capitals forward Tom Wilson with a massive check.
McQuaid has six assists in 37 games this season and averaged just over 18 minutes of ice-time. Last year he missed 18 games with a broken thumb. The year before, McQuaid was sidelined by multiple injuries and played in just 30 games. McQuaid missed the end of Boston’s 2011-12 season because of a concussion.
The game was Boston’s first since their 5-1 Winter Classic loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
