Anthopoulos was named Sporting News’ MLB executive of the year award for the 2015 season for building a Blue Jays team that won the American League East and reached the ALCS, losing to the eventual World Series champion Kansas City Royals.
On his way out from Toronto, Anthopoulos said the Blue Jays organization was no longer “the right fit” for him with Mark Shapiro taking over the team’s president and CEO. He had been the club’s GM since 2009. The Dodgers were quickly identified as a team where Anthopoulos could fit should he want to return to a front office in 2016 and in late December Anthopoulos told The Canadian Press he anticipated it wouldn’t be long before he had another job in baseball. Los Angeles presents him with an environment and a process he can get behind and a position where he’ll likely have imput on matters of scouting and player development.
