New dad Jason Day is a little rusty coming into ’16 PGA Tour opener
Jason Day became a dad for the second time in November, when wife Ellie gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Lucy.
In preparation for the delivery, Day took off most of the fall portion of the 2015-16 PGA Tour schedule, only playing in the Presidents Cup in October. In other words, he’s a little rusty. How much rust does he have to knock off at this week’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions on Maui?
Oh.
That lack of golf is something to keep an eye on as the tournament starts on Thursday, with Day in the penultimate first-round group with Rickie Fowler, just ahead of FedEx Cup winner Jordan Spieth and defending champion Patrick Reed.
And while Day might be rejuvenated after a long, but very successful, 2015, his newborn likely has prevented him from being well-rested. On top of being a dad to a newborn, Day enjoyed some great sports experiences in his offseason, ranging from cosplaying as an NFL sideline photographer for a Detroit Lions game to sitting sideline at a Cleveland Cavaliers game, where Ellie was unfortunately injured in a courtside collision with LeBron James.
