The 10-man rotation, starring the Suns’ staggering implosion
A look around the league and the Web that covers it. It’s also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren’t always listed in order of importance. That’s for you, dear reader, to figure out.
C: Sports Illustrated, Bleacher Report and Eye on Basketball. Ben Golliver, Kevin Ding and Matt Moore on the wide variety of issues facing the circling-the-drain Phoenix Suns, who went from the fringe of the playoffs to the worst team in the NBA in an awful hurry.
PF: Vocativ and Deadspin. Louis Moore and Greg Howard on what #NoJusticeNoLeBron missed.
SF: Northeast Ohio Media Group. Chris Haynes with a deeply personal piece about having to make the sort of decision activists wanted LeBron to make, and the thoughts and regrets that followed.
SG: The Sporting News. A smart on-the-ground read from Adi Joseph on what Al Jefferson’s torn meniscus and subsequent six-week absence mean for both him and the Charlotte Hornets, in both the short- and long-term.
PG: ESPN Insider ($). On a sunnier note, Kevin Pelton looks at Charlotte’s offensive overhaul, which “would be one of the 10 largest jumps [in points scored per possession] since the ABA-NBA merger if the Hornets can maintain it for a full season.”
6th: USA TODAY Sports. Sam Amick on how Draymond Green’s recent play has earned him a new nickname and comparisons to one of his alma mater’s greatest products.
7th: The Cauldron. Elton Brand, in his own words, on why he’s coming back to join a 3-33 team.
8th: Sunday Shootaround. Paul Flannery, beautifully, on the perfect farewells Boston gave Kobe and KG.
9th: The New York Times. Andrew Keh on “Spurs Special Forces” and why the NBA seems to lend itself to comedy in a way that other sports leagues don’t.
10th: VICE Sports. Late to it, but I loved Ezekiel Kweku’s year-ender on how the Golden State Warriors won 2015: “It’s not just Golden State’s dominance but the confident insouciance with which they question the metaphysics of basketball that makes it feel like they are somehow breaking the game.”
