Famed ex-WWE announcer Jim Ross wants to call Pirates games
Imagine Andrew McCutchen smacking a homer deep into parts unknown at PNC Park and the ensuing call going something like: “Good God almighty, he broke that ball in two, BAH GAWD!”

That’s baseball mixed with a little bit of pro wrestling-like commentary in the style of WWE great Jim Ross. If Good Ol’ J.R., gets his way, he might just be calling McCutchen homers, Gerrit Cole strikeouts and everything else that the Pittsburgh Pirates do on the field.
That’s because Ross — a WWE Hall of Fame announcer and quote machine who was making memes before we dubbed them memes — said he wants to call Pirates games.
Feels like a bah gawd in order, doesn’t it? BAH GAWD!
The Pirates broadcast crew is down a man after Tim Neverett left to call Boston Red Sox games. Now we’re not saying broadcasting professional baseball is the same as broadcasting pro wrestling, but we would be interested in Ross narrating two squirrels fighting over a nut. So, in other words, give the guy a chance, Pirates.

Ross, 64, left WWE in 2013, after 40 years in the wrestling biz. Since then he’s added boxing and MMA to his résumé. Speaking of that résumé, it includes stuff like the following:
Don’t you think baseball needs more over-the-top hyperbole and announcers going nuts in big moments? That’s how baseball is called in other countries, you know.
If nothing else, the Pirates should give Ross a Spring Training tryout or bring him on for a week’s worth of regular season games. They’d get some great heat out of it from up-tight baseball fans.
