Tom Coughlin won’t say what his future plans are after Giants loss
Sunday certainly felt like the last time Tom Coughlin will coach the New York Giants.
As he left the MetLife Stadium at the end of the Giants’ 35-30 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, he acknowledged the fans who stuck around gave him a big cheer. Coughlin had his family members in for the game, but didn’t tell them what his plans were (or, his family members weren’t telling).
Coughlin didn’t want to say after the game what he would do. Fox Sports 1’s Mike Garafolo wrote over the weekend that Coughlin might resign. The coach wouldn’t say.
“You’ve got your questions prepared for what direction I’m going to go,” Coughlin said, according to ESPN.com’s Dan Graziano. “I’m not going to answer anything about that. The season just ended. There’ll be time for that.”
Coughlin followed up by saying, “No one has decided anything,” and said he would give himself some time. No matter what he said, it seemed like a finale on Sunday.
The fans waited until after a totally meaningless game against the Eagles was over to salute the coach that won two Super Bowls.
We’ll find out soon enough if Coughlin wants to leave, or the Giants want to go in a different direction. If this was it for Coughlin, he leaves a great legacy with the Giants that included a couple championships.
And if that was actually the end for Coughlin, Giants fans made sure he got a nice sendoff.
