Vernon Adams leaves Alamo Bowl after hit to the head (Video)
Oregon quarterback Vernon Adams left the game in the second quarter after he took a shoulder to the helmet while on a running play.
Adams’ head snapped violently back on the hit. He walked off the field and was immediately replaced at quarterback by Jeff Lockie and taken to the locker room.
Before the hit, Adams was slicing the TCU defense apart. Oregon had a 28-0 lead at the time of his departure and Adams was 13-19 passing for 197 yards. He returned to the sideline in the second half in street clothes, meaning Lockie would finish the game at QB.
The hit also came two plays after Oregon got a first down off a blocked punt. TCU forced the Ducks to punt and blocked the kick. However, the kick was caught by DeForest Buckner behind the line of scrimage and Buckner ran the ball for a first down.
The Alamo Bowl is the final game of Adams’ college career. The star QB transferred to Oregon before the 2015 season from FCS school Eastern Washington. Entering the Alamo Bowl, Adams had 2,556 yards passing and 25 touchdowns.
