Expert bowl picks: TaxSlayer, Liberty, Alamo, Cactus conclude slate – CBSSports.com
You’ve done it. You’ve made it this far.
Your journey began in late August, and every Saturday of the regular season you were there. Then came the bowls, and you soldiered your way through those too. And now, for your reward, it’s one final college football Saturday of the season.
After this it’s eight full months of college football-less Saturdays.
So even if there are only four games, and even if we still have a championship game to get through next week, enjoy all four of these while you have them.
Believe me, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

TaxSlayer Bowl: Penn State vs. Georgia — ESPN, Noon: As far as #BRANDS are concerned, this is a pretty nice matchup. I mean, it’s Penn State and Georgia. It’s just, well, since Kirby Smart is still trying to win a national title with Alabama, Georgia’s coaching staff is like three coaches deep at this point or something. Then there’s Penn State, which may be Penn State, but it wasn’t really Penn State this year, you know? So while this game may slay some taxes, I’m not sure it’ll slay you with entertainment.
Liberty Bowl: Kansas State vs. Arkansas — ESPN, 3:20 p.m: On the surface, I feel like this could be a blowout. I just haven’t been all that impressed by what I’ve seen from Kansas State this season, and it feels like a bad matchup. That being said, Arkansas has a tendency to keep games close no matter what, and Kansas State is still coached by Bill Snyder. If you give that man this long to come up with a game plan, he’s going to come up with an effective game plan.
Alamo Bowl: No. 15 Oregon vs. No 11. TCU — ESPN, 6:45 p.m: This game promised to be a lot more interesting before Trevone Boykin’s arrest. Now? Now I’m not so sure. Gary Patterson and the TCU defense will still give the Oregon offense a tough time, it’s just I don’t know what the Horned Frogs offense will be capable of without both Boykin and receiver Josh Doctson. Which is too bad, because if TCU were coming into this game with Boykin, it could have proven to be one of the most entertaining games of the bowl season. But who knows? Maybe it still will.
Cactus Bowl: Arizona State vs. West Virginia — ESPN, 10:15 p.m : Did you know I picked Arizona State as one of my four playoff teams before the season began? Wasn’t that a good choice? Yeah, both of these teams come into the game after disappointing seasons, but both of these teams are also capable of putting up points in a hurry, so this one could prove to be high-scoring, fun, and last into the early Sunday morning hours.
