Reports: Trevone Boykin arrested, suspended after bar incident
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin was reportedly arrested early Thursday morning and charged with third-degree felony assault when he was involved in an altercation at a San Antonio bar.
Boykin is with the team in San Antonio as it prepares to face Oregon on Jan. 2 in the Alamo Bowl. He was suspended by TCU for the game Thursday morning along with wide receiver Preston Miller.
According to ESPN, Boykin was arrested after he was allegedly being trash talked by some bar patrons. He was escorted out of the establishment, per police, and allegedly threw a punch that hit an officer. He was arrested after he was threatened to be tased.
Here is the police description of the incident.
that Boykin was in his hotel room at midnight for curfew check before he went back out.
ESPN also reported, citing sources,Below is the statement TCU released regarding the two suspensions.
“Trevone Boykin and Preston Miller have been suspended for Saturday’s game due to a violation of team rules. We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation, Valero Alamo Bowl and city of San Antonio.”
Boykin, TCU’s starting quarterback, was a top Heisman candidate until the Horned Frogs lost to Oklahoma State for their first loss of the season. Then Boykin hurt his ankle vs. Kansas and missed the team’s one-point loss to Oklahoma that came after TCU decided to go for two after scoring a late touchdown.
He has thrown for 3,575 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2015. Boykin also has 612 yards rushing and nine touchdowns. Many of his opponents have called him the best player they faced in 2015.
Without Boykin, TCU will start either Foster Sawyer or Bram Kohlhausen. The two quarterbacks each saw playing time when Boykin was out with the ankle injury. Boykin’s absence also takes the luster off what looked to be a high-powered Alamo Bowl. TCU and Oregon each average over 40 points per game.
