Jason Kipnis’ parents bought him a giant teddy bear for Christmas
Christmas wish lists for professional baseball players can vary quite a bit.
For some, a new contract with lots of zeros tops the list. For others, it might be an opportunity to make a big league roster, whether it be their first or potentially their last. And for others still, they may just be wishing for good health so they can prove their worth sooner than later.

Then there are guys like Jason Kipnis, a two-time All-Star second baseman with the Cleveland Indians. He’s already locked up with a decent contract through the 2019 season. He already has an opportunity to play everyday. His health is pretty good too as he enters his age-29 season, so this year he was completely satisfied receiving a gift often reserved for children 25 years his junior: a giant teddy bear.
Giant is not overstating it. That’s one huge bear and an bigger child-like grin from Kipnis.
Here’s what his caption read under the picture, which he post to his Instagram account over the weekend.
“My parents say they don’t know what to buy me anymore cause they think I get myself everything I want already… Well I beg to differ… They know exactly what to buy me still!”
Let’s be honest: Parents never truly lose touch with what their children want or need. Usually it’s the children who lose touch with what they want, but that’s not the case with Kipnis.
Now he has a new friend, a new riding partner, and the Indians may have a new unofficial mascot.

Don’t think that big bear won’t make an appearance in their clubhouse this season. And don’t be surprised if he makes himself right at home. That’s just how baseball works. If the Indians or Kipnis find some success, he’ll have a jersey, a hat, his own locker and a bobblehead doll by the end of the season.
Just ask our old friend Hank the Ballpark Pup. The teddy bear’s life could change just that fast.
