Crosby, Penguins close out 2015 on high note
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has not had the greatest season so far. It has been one of the major storylines of 2015-16, but Crosby has been heating up of late and on New Year’s Eve he made sure to end 2015 on a rather high note.
The Penguins earned a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, with Crosby providing the winning goal in rather impressive fashion. After fanning on his first shot, the Penguins captain calmly collected the puck and let a perfect shot go while still on his knees.

That goal made it 3-2 and Evgeni Malkin added an insurance goal just 34 seconds later to keep the Red Wings at bay.
Crosby is really starting to get going. He has eight points over his last six games and has goals in three of his last four, marking his best stretch of the season. Crosby is now up to 27 points in 38 games. He’s still working on rounding into form, but the Penguins captain is heading into the New Year on a roll.
In addition to Crosby getting going, Penguins defenseman Kris Letang finished the night with a pair of goals and an assist. Additionally, Patric Hornqvist and Malkin also had three-point nights.
The Pens have points in four of their last five games and inched a little closer back to playoff contention with the win over Detroit. With how poorly the rest of the season has gone for Pittsburgh, they’re trending in the right direction as we near the halfway point of the season.
