Alabama DB Tony Brown sent home from Cotton Bowl
A day before the Cotton Bowl, Alabama sent home one of its top special teams contributors.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban announced that defensive back Tony Brown will not play in Thursday’s game.
“We have made an internal decision to send Tony Brown home due to a violation of team rules,” Saban said in a statement.
No additional details were provided.
Brown, a sophomore, has appeared in all 13 games for the Tide this season, mainly on special teams. In all, he has 16 tackles, one tackle for loss and two pass breakups this season.
Brown was a five-star recruit in Alabama’s 2014 class. He started two games for the Tide last season after enrolling early and finished his true freshman season with 10 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup.
No. 2 Alabama plays No. 3 Michigan State will meet in a semifinal on Thursday for a shot to play for the national championship.
