Brad Marchand flips Mark Borowiecki with low hit (Video)

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand flipped Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki with a low check in their Tuesday game at TD Garden in Boston.

Marchand was not penalized on the first period play and Borowiecki did not miss any time, returning soon after, though reportedly stretching his left leg. He later fought 6-foot-9 Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. 

This is not the first time Marchand has flipped a player. On Jan. 9, 2012, he clipped former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Sami Salo and was given a five-game suspension.

Marchand also received a two-game suspension last season for slew-footing New York Rangers forward Derick Brassard. In 2011, Marchand was fined $2,500 for slew-footing former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen.

The agitating forward has turned into one of the Bruins most important offensive players this season with 15 goals in 33 games. He’s on pace for a career-high 36 goals.

If the Bruins lose Marchand because of discipline it will add more trouble to their already depleted group of forwards. The team is without co-leading scorer David Krejci, who is “week-to-week” with an upper body injury. 

This was the first night Marchand wore an alternate captain’s ‘A’ on his jersey with Krejci out.
