Suns suspend Morris for 2 games after towel toss
The Phoenix Suns suspended forward Markieff Morris for two games on Thursday for conduct detrimental to the team, after he tossed a towel toward coach Jeff Hornacek on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the fourth quarter of the Suns’ 104-96 loss at home to the Denver Nuggets. It was the third straight loss for the Suns (12-19).
With 9:47 to play and Denver leading 84-75, Morris was taken out of the game. He threw the towel at Hornacek, who in turn picked up the towel and threw it back toward Morris.
“He’s mad about not playing,” Hornacek told The Arizona Republic. “I look at the stat sheet. He’s a minus-13 in 12 minutes. So there, I took him out. … He thinks he’s better than that. Show me.”
Morris will serve the suspension in the Suns’ next two games, both at home, Dec. 26 against the Philadelphia 76ers and Dec. 28 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Morris made multiple trade demands this past offseason, and sources have told ESPN.com that the Houston Rockets have Morris on their radar. His twin brother, Marcus, was traded to the Detroit Pistons in July.
Markieff Morris did not arrive in Phoenix until it was required for training camp, after proclaiming in a series of tweets that he also would not be in Phoenix this season, and lost his starting job this month.
