WR who held cardboard sign asking for NFL job signed by Jets
Joe Anderson’s plan worked.
Anderson, a receiver who played nine games with the Chicago Bears in 2012-13, stood outside the Houston Texans facility last month with a cardboard sign begging for a chance. “Not homeless … but STARVING for success!!! Will run routes 4 food,” his sign said.
You have to admire the dedication, as crazy as his plan to get the attention of his local NFL team seemed. It paid off, as the New York Jets signed Anderson, who went undrafted out of Texas Southern coming out of college, to their practice squad. And right before the holidays arrived.
Anderson’s @_YouGot2Believe Twitter account is full of videos and pictures of him working out, just hoping for a shot in the NFL again. You can tell how much getting another opportunity consumed him, and how much he worked to get it. It’s an unusual path to get back in the league, but it worked for him. Now he has the shot to show the Jets what he can do. It’s a great NFL story to root for.
