Barry Odom: Maty Mauk back with the Missouri football team
Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk is officially back with the Tigers.
Mauk has been reinstated by new Missouri coach Barry Odom. Mauk was suspended twice during the 2015 season. He was reinstated from his first suspension in late October and suspended again for the remainder of the season a week later.
“We had long talks together and understand on both sides of it,” Odom said. “I wanted to hear, really, what he wanted. Did he want to be here? Did he want to get his degree? Does he want to play football? Those were some things that only he and I could work out and talk through so we have done that over the last few days.”
When asked if Mauk would have the opportunity to compete for the starting job, Odom said all players would have the right to compete for positions on the depth chart.
Mauk began the season as Missouri’s starting quarterback. He was 57-110 for 654 yards passing with six touchdowns and four interceptions before he was suspended. He would be competing with Drew Lock, the freshman who replaced him, in the spring for the starting quarterback job. Lock went 2-6 as a starter in 2015 as Missouri was 5-7.
