Gregg Popovich goofs on ex-Spur George Hill’s dyed-blond hair
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is widely acknowledged as one of the funniest men in the NBA. While his media interviews get most of the attention, it’s arguable that Pop’s on-court goofs are some of his finest moments. Who could ever forget the time he had his team intentionally foul Shaquille O’Neal five seconds into the season? Or how about listing Tim Duncan as a “DNP – Old”?

An in-game comment to a former player during Monday’s game with the Indiana Pacers at the AT&T Center will now join that list. Pacers point guard George Hill, a Spur from the 2008 NBA Draft until he was traded for the rights to Kawhi Leonard three years later, has sported a dyed-very-blond hairstyle all season. Popovich hadn’t had the chance to see it in person prior to this game, and he offered his opinion to his former charge during a break in the action:
Hey, maybe Popovich really does like the style. He did compliment Hill after the game:
There’s an image for you.
The Spurs got more laughs at the expense of the Pacers, turning a two-point halftime advantage into a fairly comfortable 106-92 win. Leonard was the star with impressive numbers (24 points on 10-of-19 FG, six rebounds, five assists, three steals), but his top contribution came at the other end, where he held Paul George to a season-low seven points on 1-of-14 from the field, the worst shooting of his career.
