Ovechkin sparks Caps' comeback vs. Lightning
The Washington Capitals machine continued to roll Friday night with a come-from-behind 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning that saw them erase an early three-goal deficit.
Leading the way for the Capitals was their captain, Alex Ovechkin, as he scored a pair of power-play goals in the win, including the game-tying goal in the third period.
That tying goal was yet another highlight tally for Ovechkin as he picked up a loose puck near the blue line and then pulled off a flawless curl-and-drag around Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman at top speed before beating Ben Bishop for his 16th goal of the year.
That is a tough play to pull off at top speed, especially when it’s up against a really solid defenseman like Stralman. But that is why Ovechkin is still one of the NHL’s must-see players every night and is quickly closing in 500 career goals.
With his two goals on Friday he is now up to 491 for his career.
Ovechkin also added a pair of assists in the win to help the Capitals improve to 23-6-2 on the season as they continue what is by far the best start in franchise history.
They are starting to establish themselves as the class of the Eastern Conference this season.
