Kyle Busch has scheduled surgery; expected back for 2016
2015 Sprint Cup Series champion Kyle Busch had another surgery on Thursday.
Don’t worry, this wasn’t a surprise. The scheduled surgery was part of his recovery process from the injuries he suffered at February in Daytona. He missed the first 11 races of the season before coming back and qualifying for the Chase. He then made it to the final round of the Chase where he won at Homestead over Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon and Martin Truex Jr.
Joe Gibbs Racing released a statement Thursday afternoon that said the surgery was successful and Busch is expected back for the beginning of the 2016 season.
“The scheduled offseason surgery removed the plates, rod and screws that were used to help stabilize his foot and leg following injuries suffered in an accident at Daytona International Speedway in February 2015,” the team statement said. “Today’s surgeries were performed by Dr. Robert Anderson of OrthoCarolina and Dr. Stephen Sims of Carolinas Healthcare System.”
Thx for all the sweet messages. Kyle is in recovery and doing well. All the hardware is out and he is in good spirits 👍🏼

Busch broke his right leg and left foot in the crash, which happened during the season-opening Xfinity Series race.
