NHL Three Stars: Skinner tricks again; Varlamov shuts down Blackhawks
No. 1 Star: Jeff Skinner, Carolina Hurricanes
Two hat tricks in three games? Welcome back to elite sniper-ville, Jeff Skinner. The Hurricanes forward scored three goals on six shots – including that 1-on-4 beauty to complete the trick. Alas, Carolina could only pull a point out of Philadelphia in a 4-3 overtime loss.
No. 2 Star: Semyon Varlamov, Colorado Avalanche
Matt Duchene, Zach Redmond and Gabriel Landeskog gave Varlamov the offense he needed in a 3-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks that ended Patrick Kane’s points streak at 26 games. Varly made 29 saves in the win.
No. 3 Star: Thomas Vanek, Minnesota Wild
The Wild had four-point nights from both Vanek and Mikko Koivu in their 6-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks, but we’ll give the nod to Vanek here for having points on the Wild’s first four goals. He had a goal and three helpers for the game.
