Steven Matz dresses up as Santa for Mets’ kids holiday party
Being a rookie means occasionally dressing up in funny costumes in order to be ridiculed. New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz experienced that during the season, but he didn’t seem to mind too much.

Matz donned a different costume Tuesday, dressing up as Santa for the Mets’ kids holiday party.
This is actually a long-standing tradition with the club. Each year, one player dons the Santa suit during the kids holiday party. The ritual is so well known that some have speculated putting on the Santa outfit is actually a curse.
We won’t get into the curse here, mainly because we enjoy seeing young, talented players excel. We will, however, take a guess at what the three most popular Christmas wishes will be from the kids attending the event.
Without further ado:
3. Win a World Series
2. Bring back Yoenis Cespedes
1. Re-sign Bartolo Colon and let him bat third
Let’s face it, winning a World Series would be great, but we all know having Bartolo around for another season would be the icing on the cake. OK, fine, we added in the “let him bat third” part because that’s what we here at The Stew want to happen.

The holidays are a time to give thanks and, for the first time in a while, the Mets have a lot to be thankful for this season. The team reached the World Series and boasts one of the best, young pitching staffs in the game.
The Mets, and their fans, are in a good place. Even if they decide against hitting Bartolo third.
