NHL Three Stars: Kane extends streak to 26 games; goalies on parade
No. 1 Star: Semyon Varlamov, Colorado Avalanche
Varlamov almost had the shutout if it wasn’t for that pesky Vladimir Tarasenko. The Avs goaltender made 42 saves in Colorado’s 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
No. 2 Star: Thomas Greiss, New York Islanders
Greiss improved his record to 9-3-2 on the season with a 27 save shutout against the New Jersey Devils. Marek Zidlicky put up 2 goals for the Isles in the 4-0 win.
No. 3 Star: Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks
Crawford picked up his league leading fourth shut-out of the season against the Vancouver Canucks. The Blackhawks scored three goals on Ryan Miller in the third period to cement the 4-1 win.
Honorable Mention: Jack Skille, John Mitchell, and Carl Soderberg were your goal scorers for the Avalanche. Gabriel Landeskog returned to the lineup for Colorado after missing two games. He registered one assist in 19:58. The aforementioned Tarasenko, celebrating his 24th birthday, hammered home the only goal for the Blues:
… The Islanders are 8-0-2 in their last 10 games. Brock Nelson’s pass to Kyle Okposo was nearly broken up by the Devils, but Okposo managed to wrangle the puck and get it to the front of the net to John Tavares:
… Brandon Mashinter earned his first ever NHL point in Chicago’s win. Patrick Kane extended his scoring streak to 26 games with an assist on Duncan Keith’s first period power play goal:
Did You Know? Sunday’s tilt versus Vancouver marked the 1,200th regular season game in Marian Hossa’s career.
Dishonorable Mention: Cory Schneider was given the hook after allowing 3 goals on 18 shots in 27:28 TOI. Steve Bernier boarded Andy Green and Adam Larsson stepped in to fight Bernier. Larsson received the instigator plus a 10 minute misconduct.
