Neville not planning to manage Man United
Valencia boss Gary Neville has said he does not see himself managing Manchester United in the future.
Valencia handed former United and England right-back Neville his first managerial post earlier this month.
The news saw the odds quickly shorten on Neville succeeding Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford and bookmakers currently make him favourite to be their next manager.
Neville made 602 appearances for United during a one-club playing career, but the 40-year-old told Sky Sports: “No, I don’t see myself managing Manchester United at all.
“I know what I want to do in my life, and that’s not something that’s in my mind. From my point of view, this is important for me and a valuable experience. I’m aware I need to succeed.
“Succeeding for me would be knowing these players have improved dramatically.
“Results come and go, I know we’re in a results-driven business, but I have never looked at football like that since I’ve finished playing. I did when I was a player.
“As a part-owner, I think about moving forward in the next five, 10 years.”
Meanwhile, Neville has indicated that former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo is a big part of his plans at Valencia.
Negredo had been out of favour under Neville’s predecessor Nuno, and Neville told a news conference: “I saw Alvaro play quite a lot when he was at City.
“He had a great impact in the Premier League. He was like the perfect centre-forward. He hasn’t played for three months and we have to sensible in how we bring him back into the side.
“He’s making a real effort every day but this is a process he needs to go through. He’s not going to be back at his peak all of a sudden. We’ll take it bit by bit. I’ve a lot of faith in Negredo. I’ve seen him when he’s at his best level.”
