Assist gives Kane longest streak since 1992
The streak goes on. Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Kane picked up the secondary assist on Duncan Keith‘s power-play goal in the first period against the Vancouver Canucks to extend his streak to 26 consecutive games with a point. It is officially the longest streak since Mats Sundin posted 30 points in 1992-93 while with the Quebec Nordiques.
Hat tip to the CBSSports.com social team here for bringing the Quebec Nordiques jersey back into our lives on a Sunday evening.

Kane’s run going to 26 games also makes it the longest streak by an active NHL player, passing Sidney Crosby who had a 25-game streak in 2010-11.
The assist Sunday may have been one of the most underwhelming points of the streak yet as Kane passed to Keith, who passed to Artemi Panarin. Then Panarin let a shot go from the left faceoff circle, but it hit the post. Panarin immediately retrieved the puck, keeping Kane’s assist chance alive. The Russian rookie then passed it back to Keith who scored the goal.
A point is a point, and Kane’s march towards making more history continues.
The Blackhawks star is now officially half way to Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record of 51 consecutive games with a point set back in 1983-84 while The Great One was with the Edmonton Oilers.
We detailed just how impressive Kane’s 25-game streak was coming into the game earlier Sunday, but with each passing game it only gets crazier and crazier. The fact that he continues to produce at this clip despite teams scoring an average of just 2.66 goals per game still seems to defy logic. This kind of thing isn’t supposed to be possible in today’s NHL.
Here’s a little more info on Kane’s impressive run from NHL PR:

With the assist, Kane also extended his NHL lead to 46 points. He is currently averaging 1.48 points per game this season, which puts him on pace for about 121 points. His current career high for an NHL season is 88 points.
This streak is one for the ages, folks.
