Patrick Kane extends point streak to 24 games (Video)

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane extended his franchise record point streak to 24 games with a goal at the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

Nashville coach Peter Laviolette challenged the play, saying Kane interfered with Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne. But the goal stood.

Here is the NHL’s explanation of why Kane’s goal was allowed:

At 5:43 of the third period in the Blackhawks/Predators game, Nashville requested a Coach’s Challenge to review whether a Chicago player interfered with Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne prior to Patrick Kane’s goal. After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Referee confirmed no goaltender interference infractions occurred before the puck crossed the goal line. Therefore the original call stands – good goal Chicago Blackhawks. 

During this stretch, Kane has picked up 38 points. He leads the NHL with 44 points in 29 games played this season. On Thursday, Wayne Gretzky, who owns the NHL record with 51 straight games with a point, said Kane had a chance to best that mark.

The Blackhawks lost the game to Nashville 5-1. Chicago next plays at home Friday against the Winnipeg Jets.
