Sergei Bobrovsky to miss three weeks with lower-body injury
A lower-body injury will keep Columbus Blue Jackets netminder Sergei Bobrovsky sidelined for the next three weeks. The injury was suffered near the end of the third period of Tuesday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
After a terrible start where at one point he admitted he was playing with “zero confidence,” Bobrovsky had turned things around since the start of November. After Todd Richards’ dismissal, the Blue Jackets improved, buoyed by the play of their netminder who’s posted a .944 even strength score-adjusted save percentage over his last 15 games, per War on Ice.
The net now belongs to Curtis McElhinney, who got plenty of experience filling in for an injured Bobrovsky last season. The Blue Jackets also recalled Joonas Korpisalo to play the backup role.
“Curtis has been good,” said Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella, via Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch. “I feel very comfortable.”
As of Wednesday night, the Blue Jackets have 24 points in 29 games, good enough for last in the Eastern Conference. They’ve already changed coaches; their big summer acquisition is playing on the fourth line; Ryan Johansen is being moved around; and now their No. 1 netminder is hurt again.
Is it too early for GM Jarmo Kekalainen to focus his attention toward seriously scouting Auston Matthews?
