Bowling Green hires Texas Tech assistant Mike Jinks as head coach
Three years ago, Mike Jinks was the head coach at Cibolo Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas. Now he’s a Division I head coach.
Bowling Green announced Tuesday night that it has hired Jinks to be its next head coach. Jinks will succeed Dino Babers, who left Bowling Green last week to take the head coaching job at Syracuse.
Jinks has spent the past three seasons coaching the running backs at Texas Tech. Prior to the 2015 season, Jinks was promoted to associate head coach to add to his usual duties as running backs coach.
Before joining Kliff Kingsbury’s staff at Texas Tech, Jinks spent 16 years coaching at the high school level, including eight as a head coach. At Cibolo Steele, Jinks had a 76-18 overall record and won the 2010 Class 5A Division II state title.
Bowling Green (10-3) won the MAC title this season and plays Georgia Southern in the GoDaddy Bowl on Dec. 23.
