Patriots fan pays up bet with Eagles’ Connor Barwin, hands him Bud Light
You can take to task the New England Patriots who started filing out of Gillette Stadium with about 11 minutes left on Sunday afternoon in their eventual loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but you have to give one Pats fans a serious hat tip.
Eagles pass rusher Connor Barwin was warming up early before the game, he and his team heavy underdogs to the Patriots, who seldom lose in their vaunted haunt — much less lose back-to-back games. A few early-arriving Patriots fans decided to razz Barwin, promising him a long afternoon against the Fighting Tom Bradys.
“These stadiums now have access where [the fans are] right up on the field, and they were kind of messing with me,” Barwin said on the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show on Monday, “talking about how I wasn’t going to get any sacks, we weren’t going to win, blah, blah, blah …
“And I just said, ‘Make sure you have a beer ready for me after we win.’ And sure enough, we won and they had a Bud Light ready for me so I grabbed it on my way out.”
94WIP’s Cindy Webster caught the scene:
That’s right — one of the fans who gave Barwin a hard time stuck around through the early carnage, got his hopes up during Brady’s close-but-no-cigar comeback and settled his bet. With a somewhat flat Bud Light, as beer sales are cut off 15 minutes after the start of the second half, but that’s beyond the point. Barwin got the last laugh well after last call.
He had more than earned it, sacking Brady twice for minus-14 yards and racked up six tackles in the stunning victory. In fact, seriously … Bud Light — is that the best he gets for such a strong game?
