Waiver Wired: Wired: Top NBA Pickups Week 7
Games Played Week 7
4 Games – BOS, CHA, CHI, DET, LAC, LAL, MEM, MIA, MIL, MIN, NYK, OKC, PHI, PHX, POR, SAS, TOR, UTA, WAS
3 Games – ATL, BRK, DAL, GSW, HOU, IND, NOP, ORL
2 Games – CLE, DEN, SAC
With LeBron, Love, Faried, Gallinari, Cousins and Gay playing just two games, owners in weekly lineup leagues have some tough lineup decisions to make. Especially given that LeBron sat out on Saturday. My guess if that if you own any of them, you’re probably going to play them over most guys who have a 3-game week. But if you have decent options with four games, things get tricky. Good luck!

Guards
Sixers Point Guards Isaiah Canaan 25%, T.J. McConnell 20% & Tony Wroten 20% owned in Yahoo! Leagues – Wroten is back, Canaan and McConnell started on Saturday, and this is shaping up to be a bit of a mess. For the upcoming week though, I’d still rank ‘em Canaan, TJM and then Wroten. That order could be reversed sooner than later, though. Wroten made his debut on Saturday with four points, three assists and five turnovers on 2-of-7 shooting in just 13 minutes. TOs are his downfall, so the bad start is a bit concerning. Canaan is averaging 15.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.0 steals and a whopping 3.8 3-pointers over his last five, so I’m sticking with him for now. TJM checks in at 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.6 steals over his last five, and is at least worth a look if you don’t care about his lack of scoring punch.
Hawks Kent Bazemore 44% & Thabo Sefolosha 17% – Bazemore’s been back from his injury for five games and has had mixed results while coming off the bench behind Thabo, but is still averaging 11.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 0.8 blocks and 1.2 3-pointers in 24 minutes over his last five games. I still think he’s going to get better going forward as he adjusts to coming off the bench. While it feels as if Sefolosha’s been playing well, he’s still averaging just 7.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 3-pointers on 41 percent shooting over his last four games. No thank you.
O.J. Mayo Bucks 5% – Mayo has been starting and has scored 17 and 13 points in each of his last two games, and is averaging 34 minutes a game over his last five. He’s at 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 3-pointers on 42 percent shooting during that stretch. I don’t love Mayo, but he’s at least worth a look as long as he’s starting for Jason Kidd, who might bench him at any time. Jerryd Bayless might have been on this list, but Kidd is jerking him around and he was out on Saturday with an ankle injury. He’s still worth a look if you need a starting point guard, although Kidd may continue to screw with his role, especially with Michael Carter-Williams still lingering around and playing well at times.

Trey Burke Jazz 39% – Burke has played well in his last two games, averaging 16 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 3-pointers, hitting 13-of-32 shots and playing 34 minutes a night. Maybe he’s ready to get hot, but keep in mind he played just 22, 15 and 8 minutes in each of his previous three games.
Cory Joseph Raptors 10% – Joseph has quietly been playing well for the Raps, despite the strong play of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. He’s averaging 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.8 blocks and 0.8 3-pointers on 51 percent shooting over his last five games. He’s also been getting 32 minutes a night and the only place he might hurt you is free throw percentage, although he doesn’t shoot enough of them to really matter.
Lakers Lou Williams Lakers 46% & Kobe Bryant 84% – Williams is averaging 15 points, 1.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 2.5 3-pointers over his last two games. With Kobe struggling so badly, Williams should continue to get opportunities. Kobe’s owned in 84 percent of leagues, but is starting to show up on waiver wires. I think it’s fine to take a flier on Kobe and I recently did so, but you just have to know he has the potential to completely wreck your field goal percentage. If you do end up picking him up, don’t plan on putting him in your lineup too often right now.
Ty Lawson Rockets 56% – Lawson had a couple good games recently but has fallen off the cliff again over his last two, scoring a total of 10 points with five assists and just 32 minutes. He’s more of a stash than a guy you pick up and throw into your lineup, just in case he ever gets out of J.B. Bickerstaff’s doghouse.
Evan Turner Celtics 21% – Turner’s been pretty hit or miss all season, scoring 16, 6, 13, 2 and 4 points in each of his last five games. He averages out to 8.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.4 assist and 1.6 steals over those five, shooting just 35 percent. But his minutes have been up over his last three, and it’s possible he starts playing well this week.
Matthew Dellavedova Cavaliers 10% – Dellavedova has been playing better lately, averaging 31 minutes, 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.6 3-pointers on 41 percent shooting over his last five games. The problem is that Kyrie Irving is ramping up his work and appears to be nearing a return, while Delly plays just two games next week. By the time you’re ready to use him, he might be useless.
